Don’t Sand Through Veneer… Do THIS Instead!!

I’ve done it, and maybe you have too, I’ve ruined the look of veneer by sanding too aggressively.

This is how I sand veneer NOW.

Check it out!

Steps:

  1. Core Materials Used
  2. Clean & Degrease
  3. Sand with Intention
  4. Lightly Sand Edges
  5. The Reveal

Core Materials Used

I receive commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

As you can see, this piece has some wear and tear to it. I wanted to remove the scratches and give it a refresh!

Clean & Degrease

I use @rustoleum’s Krud Kutter on pretty much everything. It’s been an amazing product that not only cleans but helps tone down a thick polish.

Sand with Intention

I never go any lower than 150 grit when sanding. This is a medium grit and works well removing scratches and dents.

I DO NOT sand the edges first. Sand in the same direction as the wood grain and leave about 2 inches worth of untouched edge.

Lightly Sand Edges

Once you’ve finished the bulk sanding, now focus on LIGHT sanding. This means to not add any force or pressure down when sanding. Usually the edges are already worn down and a light sand will refresh it without any pain.

The Reveal

And there you have it!
